Our Annual General Meeting was held on 28 May at The Cotswold House Hotel. This is an occasion when we receive reports on our activities and achievements in this year and how we look forward to the next Rotary year commencing on 1 July. Helen Karakashian has been confirmed as our next President. Stephen Spencer will be Secretary, Geoff Mayling as Treasurer, Andy and Mairead O’Neill as Youth Officers and Mike Taylor as Welfare Officer was confirmed.
Mike Jelley, a founder member from the early 1990’s is leaving us for a role with the District Rotary Youth team continuing the good work he did with Youth events in and around Chipping Campden. We were pleased to present him with a Certificate of Thanks in appreciation of the time he has served Rotary and especially as Secretary of this club for many years.
We also presented Les Southam with a Certificate of Thanks. Les is not leaving us. He has been a member of our club for 24 years and has been our Treasurer for many years.

On 8 June our President Geoff and wife Janet Mayling plus Les Southam visited Chipping Campden School to present a cheque to Head Girl Hannah Keyte to help her with a proposed start at Guildford School of Acting. Hannah is an accomplished actor and musician playing the flute and saxophone. Who knows we maybe supporting the next James Gallway! We wish Hannah well in her studies and look forward to her entertaining us at a future Rotary meeting.
In the past 12 months we have raised funds to run youth events and competitions, help the local school receive a new piano, contributed to the youth club, helped young musicians buy instruments as they move on to higher education, playground equipment for St Catherine’s, donations to Myton Hospice and the Air Ambulance Service and more. This wouldn’t be possible without with the support of the local community, business sponsors, neighbours and long-term friends of the club like Peter Butler who makes the best mulled wine at the Christmas market (although we may be biased!).
Our member Steve Webb is 82 years young and has taken part in The Two Castles 10km run between Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle on 14 June. He was one of only 11 over 75 year olds taking part. A total of 4,722 runners took part and Steve is proud to say that 615 runners finished after him. A very commendable time of 85 minutes was recorded. We were happy to support Steve’s chosen charities The Midlands Air Ambulance and The Myton Hospices. Steve raised £1,020 for these charities. Well done Steve!
As we end one Rotary year and start another we would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support and engagement. As members we find Rotary rewarding and would encourage anyone interested in Rotary or community activities to get in touch for an informal chat chippingcampdenrotary@gmail.com or find us on Facebook.
